The waiter came over with menus when we went to pay our bill and said "thought I'd bring you menus, maybe you're hungry again after this long" and rolled his eyes. Totally uncalled for I thought! Clearly annoyed that we weren't speedy with our breakfast so he could get another table. Not to mention my eggs were far overdone, tasted like they had been sitting there awhile.
The High Level diner is an old friend- comfortable, unassuming. It knows what it does well, and it continues to deliver. The veggie burgers are amazing (as it the homemade ketchup,) and their cinnamon buns are stellar- their bread pudding is made from day old cinnamon buns, and is spectacular (especially with extra caramel) . Eggs Benny are also a perfect choice. This is a fave hangout for people from all walks of life- from hipsters to families, students and seniors.
We had a delicious breakfast here -- great coffee, great food and excellent service. This restaurant prides itself on making its food from locally sourced ingredients as much as possible, including their own ketchup! You feel like you have stepped into a small town café even though you are in the heart of Edmonton. This restaurant is right along the river -- easy to find and we had no trouble finding a place to park.
This is a great location and the art in the establishment is great. Our service was friendly and prompt but unfortunately the food left us wanting more. We ordered an enchilada dish and a club house sandwich and they were super bland. My fries were soggy and barely warm. Fortunately they have a good variety of hot sauces as this made the meal at least a bit interesting. Will not be in a hurry to come back.
We came here because of YGEH and we were excited to try some of the items we had seen on the show.I got the spinach pie and fries and my husband got the black bean chili and cornbread.I wasn't overly impressed with mine, it wasn't hot and seemed like it wasn't fresh. The spinach was pretty overwhelming, very little cheese. The chili was delicious and the corn bread was unreal, definitely the best I've ever had.I felt like the prices were a bit nuts for what we got, and I recommend it as a neat place to go but I personally won't be back.
