This is our second time at this place. They have a good groupon on where you can save almost half on your meal. We ordered scallops and seafood, wor wonton soup (huge! and almond chicken. The veggies in 3 dishes were exactly the same, but everything tastes really good. Twice already when at home I start having some pain in my stomach after, but I blame lots of leafy vegetables. Overall recommend. Even our 5 year old enjoyed it (quite picky . And yes, if you are not Chinese, you are getting a 3 times smaller menu
Plenty of seafood on the wall but unless your Chinese you don’t get to see that menu only the dim sum menu. Dim Sum menu was lack. Shanghai dumplings were way to thick and very little soup inside. BBQ steam buns were pasty. Capital pork chops is what saved the dinner. Multiple all Asian tables had different types of hot pots none of which were on the menu. I wouldn’t give them my business again. Neighbor is a homeless shelter so careful what you leave out in your car.
This is only the third time eating at Urban China, ordering some dim-sum dishes and some dinner dishes at the same time. The food is good and very good. But it can get very expensive once you start ordering the different dishes. I am not really a fan of this place, but my family is. So I don't come here personally much at all. The restaurant is getting quite old, so it looks a bit run down, and especially from the outside it looks quite dirty, and its located in a rough neighborhood area which I try to avoid. I found that the prices were about 10%-15% higher than what I normally pay at better chinese restaurants throughout Edmonton, and the other restaurants are much more cleaner, kept nice and neat, and located in better locations, and the food is just as good or better. So if you don't mind the questionable neighborhood and the dirtier look of the restaurant, and you don't mind paying a bit higher, then by all means try out the good food at Urban China.
Although I enjoy dim sum, I rarely go out for it so each time we go we like to try and find someplace new. Urban China may not look like much from the outside but the inside is decorated nicely and the food was awesome! The carts were a bit slow as they came around but overall everything was great.
