Nipo Nino - El Chaltén

A very small and very simple bar. We order milanesa completa z queso, jamon y tomate for 170 ARS/portion. And we wait and wait a loooong time to pass through the stall of the old oil. The cook busts in the kitchen but without result. Finally we get our food, a great Milanesa, so huge it cannot fit on the plate and a bowl of French french french french. I can't decide to take it away. The cook holds the meal on a calculator (170 170??? and adds 2 x 100 ARS for these fries! We think it was in the meal we order and it proves to be extra. Part of the Fritten for $5?! 2 servings in a bowl?! We feel betrayed.

Very good Empanadas. There were four flavors, beef, chicken, ham and cheese, veggie. All really delicious and only 50pesos ever. My favorite was Veggie and my friends were ham and cheese. The only negative was that when it heats it for you, it only heats the outside and the filling still warm/cold in places. I'd rather wait a little longer to make sure they were hot all the way.

Instead of cooking in our hostel, my friend and I spent a week in El Chalten looking for the best empanadas and alfajores. Our German mountaineering friends, who proposed here much longer Nipo Nino. It's a little operation through the fantastic Mariana. Not only are their empanadas some of the cheapest (each 50 pesos), but they are also by far the best. As she will explain happily, she does not shrimp on the fat as most bakeries do. Now we will only be able to eat Empanadas in Nipo Nino, but fortunately she gave me the recipe to try at home

Great value, especially in the overwhelmingly expensive El Chalten. It is on the way and far away from the hiking trail to Laguna de los tres, so it is easy to go something before you start the hike or fall for some warm empanadas after the end of the hike. Not the best empanadas we had in Argentina, but quite delicious. The lady who works there is super friendly and thoughtful. The only retreat is the limited seat.
