After a slow stroll around the Parque y jardines de la Casita del Príncipe, one of the first places that temps a weary traveller, is La Taberna del Viajero. It was a while into a lovely meal that I translated the name of the venue as, The Traveler’s Tavern. I was greeted by friendly, Alvaro, who did his very best to translate the menu which was strung to the iron gate, leading to the entrance. I enjoyed a first course of risotto, followed by a small but beautifully flavored steak, served with a few fat potato chips. Sitting outside, it was hard to prize myself away from what is a great spot to sit in the shade and watch the world go by, in the shadow of the great, Royal Seat of San Lorenzo de El Escorial.
Menu of the day for lunch was amazing and priced well. I got the huevos rotos and they were one of the best things I ate in Spain. Left feeling very full. Spoke very little English, but great service.
