The 1863 Appalachian Bistro - Elkins

We had a reservation for 6:30. We arrived at 6:15 and were seated promptly enough. We sat there for about 25 minutes before the waiter came. We ordered drinks. He came back with the drinks a few minutes later. Took our orders, didn't go over the menu or anything, not that big of a deal I guess. Maybe it was his first day or something. Wasn't really a very good waiter. Couples of both sides of us complained about the amount of time it had taken to get their meals and ask if they could just pay for what was brought to them at that point, which was drinks. We had been there a half hour longer than the one table, yet they were waited on first. Anyways, we finally got our food, the one couple left, the other one started getting their food after they had complained. The food was actually good, but it took over 2 hours to get it. We had been there before and it was a decent dining experience, but not this time. I may give them another try sometime, but not in the near future. They were understaffed apparently for this Valentines Day Meal. If service was that bad all the time, I'm sure they would be out of business. We both agreed that we would have been better off going to Hardee's for a #4 meal. The End.

The restaurant was closed when we arrived after driving an hour for dinner, based on their availability listed on OT.

We had a fantastic experience at this restaurant. Everything was excellent and it was the perfect spot to celebrate our 52nd anniversary with friends. I highly recommend it. Sadie, our waitress, was great!

My husband and I were visiting Elkins for his birthday. We wanted to celebrate the evening with a quiet dinner. This was the perfect place. The food was delicious and our server was the sweetest person. She had worked there for over 4 decades and was very charming. She helped us decide what was good and then even talked husband into dessert. Will visit again.
