The highlights: pickled jalapenos this is a thing and they are amazing! Perhaps my favorite part of the meal. Their fries are surprisingly good, too. Great crunch and flavor, which can be missed with in house made fries. The so so: the hummus was kind of bland (the pickled jalapenos rescued it). Maybe more garlic and salt would make it more flavorful. The sample of roasted red pepper hummus was nice I preferred that one. The cucumbers served with the hummus were so thinly sliced, couldn't really use them to dip into the hummus. Would've preferred a thicker cut veggie and assorted veggies there were only cucumbers for the hummus. But I like cucumbers, so I suppose it's okay. The not so much: pickled jicama was coated in olive oil which gave it a very weird taste sour from the pickling with a weird buttery coating that lingered in the mouth. Wish it was just pickled without the oil. I enjoyed that the least of everything. The falafels... Didn't taste or have the texture of falafels... Desperately missing the herbs and crunch. They were so mushy inside, it reminded me of deepfried hummus balls. I found the price of the food to be a little high for what it was. $40 for one person (hummus appetizer, falafel salad, and a side of pickled jicama) is pretty steep. The 20% gratuity is included, which made this a $50 meal. I get prices are going up all over, but I could get a more satisfying and high quality meal for half the price at a variety of other restaurants. Always happy to support a local small business but the discrepancy with the flavor and experience of the food made the value of it mismatched to the cost.
Plan on waiting. If the table is a half hour wait and to go is a half hour wait I would anticipate an hour for full table service. Very trendy and a lot of staff wandering but not welcoming or helpful at all. As we were trying to figure out how to get in, and where to request a table, seated guests noticed our confusion and directed us to the coffee counter, but not the waitress that pushed by us. We had to wait behind those in line for coffee to find the status of a table. Meanwhile the waitress stood behind the counter answered one call, messed with her tablet and still ignoring us, absolutely no eye contact or query. As she walked back out from the counter still ignoring customers, I said Welcome to the Feedery, she didn't understand. It was about this time the coffee serving hostess told us tables are 1/2 hour and food is another 1/2 hour. This is not a staff shortage issue but an inattentive staff issue. The coffee serving hostess could use help, combining the two jobs is ineffective. The restaurant had many empty tables and that could be for anticipated reservations but with this few customers and a kitchen on the weeds I would hate to see what happens when they fill up. I am assuming this is a tip included restaurant as there was no sense of urgency or customer service.
Fresh food, yummy drinks, good wine, nice indoor and outdoor atmosphere, and excellent service. My fries were cold and hard when I got them and they quickly got me a new batch with a smile! Hard to find good service these days but not here!
Oh man! This Greek salad is so good! My coworker got the Bahn Mi which she enjoyed. I would've gotten the Bahn Mi as well if it came with anything other than tofu BUT my salad was super fantastic so I don't regret it. Cool atmosphere. Beautiful vertical garden inside and more growing on the rooftop. Service was fantastic. Oh sheesh, almost forgot about their unsweet tea! I can't quite remember what kind of tea our server said it was but girrrrrl, it's so refreshing and flavorful. I've been back once so far and will be back again.
The Feedery at Grow Gather is within walking distance of my apartment so it was high time I paid it a visit. While waiting for a table, I checked out the market and grabbed a coffee. The market is adorable, featuring plants and local items for sale. They were having a plant sale today where you could get vegetable starters. The growing availability of plants in the Metro area is so wonderful, in my opinion. I got the Lumberjack Latte, which I believe is a seasonal offering that is flavored with maple, honey, and cinnamon. It is so delicious and I will easily come back for several more before it disappears. On to the food. I came because of a particular brunch item I saw, but when I scanned the QR code I did not see the brunch menu (I came in around 11:30am on a Saturday). Bummer. But, since it 's National Burger Day and I initially sought out a burger place, I gave the Grow Gather Burger a shot with a side of fries. Sides come separately, which appears to be a growing trend that I have mixed feelings about. The burger was good and juicy, but I have a hard time deciding whether it 's worth the $17 plus $6 for classic shoestring fries. I will say that I could have probably been fine with just the burger or split the fries with someone (I dined alone this time), but $17 for a burger is still a little tough for me. However, I do want to acknowledge the mission of Grow Gather, as they focus on locally sourced ingredients and show at the front of their menu where your food is being sourced from. That 's why I rounded up my otherwise 3.5 rating. They also currently include 20% gratuity automatically into your meal but give you the option to tip further (I also have mixed feelings about these transparent surcharges rather than just having them built in from the start without any extra hullabaloo, but that 's a discussion for another time). I 'll certainly be back for the coffee, but may only frequent the restaurant from time to time. Hopefully I can come back at a time where I 'm able to get that Colorado Benedict from the brunch menu!
