Thank goodness this little taco stand and much more is near our rental apt. We have breakfast often, bacon/eggs, omelettes, tacos, tortas, grilled fish, pollo, papas frites, tortillas, shrimps, so many yummy delicious food items. The owners and their beautiful daughter Irene are so gracious...and a delight to engage with....service is terrific and I give the food a 10 out of 10. Try this place , you will return over and over.....like we do. Love it! Mi Gusta!
Just outside the gates of the beautiful Estero Beach resort, this small family run restaurant serves up the best of the best. The breakfasts are satisfying with plenty of choices. They make good coffee too. The tacos are delicious tortillas are made fresh to...order. The tortas (sandwiches) are stuffed with your choice of protein fish, meat, prawns plus tomatoes, lettuce, onion, avacado on the freshest bun. I also love the french fries. When away from Mexico, I find myself longing for my favourite, a shrimp taco from Big Burro. The family that owns this nice place are all great cooks, friendly and charming. There are tables inside and out, plus a counter where you can watch your food sizzling to perfection, and note how spotlessly clean the kitchen is. Prices are very reasonable for such high quality food. I highly recommend this great place. Open until late afternoon every day but Monday but hours may change in busy season. Usually deservedly busy but there is always room. Take out is also available. Well worth a visit or several visits.
Those who have lived in the southwestern usa for any time and who have loved huge carne asada burritos and chimichangas in local drive-thru taco shops and Mexican restaurants are often disappointed at the burritos they meet when they visit baja. not because of their lack of taste or quality, but because of their comparatively small size. they see, it is practically impossible to find these extra large Chimichanga style tortillas below here, which are seen more frequently in sonora and other areas of Mexico's mainland. fortunately, however, there is a place in ensenada where you can regularly enjoy exceptionally delicious burritos, so enormous that they are practically impossible to eat in a single session, even if they are extremely hungry! how are they able to get this elusive oversized flour tortillas they ask? the answer is simple; they make it there in their own kitchen .and they are fantastic! baja burro (formerly known as big burro) is conveniently located just a few hundred meters north of the beginning of the popular estero beach resort. and, although the physical appearance of this glorified food stand can seem a little humble, they will notice that the quality of their menu points slightly exceeds that of more elaborate restaurants in the opposite served the same type of kitchen. this is also one of the few local places where they can order a taco or burrito with garnels that were not scattered and fried deep in oil; grilled camarones ranchero are one of their home specialities. Since the family that has the operation has had a similar company in the Californian native for several years, those who are not well versed in español will not have any difficulty placing an order here. in their fourth year of business at this place, big burro has earned an ever-increasing legion of faithful mice with their great food and reasonable prices. beside the juicy, freshly carnished carne asada, ranchero style garnel and other mouthwater menu items, they have a few homemade salsas that are for to die. the verde is quite mild and complex that her chicken,- garnel and fish dishes are professionally complicated. the roja, on the other hand, is straight forward and conveys intensively the taste of chipotle chilis, which are infused with garlic and authentic aromatic especies and traditional flavors. if they enjoy this kind of kitchen and especially if they are a lover of “big” burritos, then there is only one thing to do. Give them a try for you. when they drive down reforma near chapultepec, turn off towards the beach at josé maría and then drive all the way to the OXXO store in calle lupita novelo. turn left, and big burro is about halfway the road on the right side.
Big burro is now baja burro. still the same great eating, the same wonderful family that it operates. just a little bigger, a little more in the sitting area. still great on worth and taste!
