The Abbey Taverna - Epping Forest

I have booked a table for people in this restaurant for my birthday. they said they would contact me in the week before they confirm the table. After I heard nothing, my friend has instructed her to confirm, then we were told that they are not open the day. we have booked because there is a problem with the toilets and he was "just to ring me". it then left me without going anywhere and I fought to notice a table for a day as they could imagine. it was not impressed to say the least.

Where do I start? the starters were not great. it was all dry when it was there for so long. the main court was terrible. the meat was tasteless and raw in the middle when I asked if I could have the vegetarian option. I said I'm not sure if it's possible. this is a shocking customer service. when it came after minutes, like meat. so tasteless with a thick layer of white sauce. also was in the middle cold (obvily reheated in the microwave) we did not even get desserts disbite that we paid per person. when we asked that they didn't know we paid for them. so where the communication with team. the lights were bright until then, and when I asked if they could turn lighter down, said the people still eat. the only thing that Christmas was my jumper. I'm really disappointed as I expected. I'm a cook and I don't expect it to be super good, but it wasn't even average. drinks are too expensive without menu; only the bare wives are working loud. the whole experience was shameful and we had to make our own party out of it. they didn't care we complained. I went to the toilet and went past the kitchen and was a mess. I wonder if eho did an inspection that they would not be happy. I'll talk all my friends/family about the thing.

We went here for a birthday there was of in total. We got our table and their was appetisers on the table. We waited an hour and half for them to bring any food to the table. When it arrived there was chicken...skewers on plates and small dishes of green beans in a tomato sauce and some garlic mushrooms. The chicken was dry and burnt and the green beans were disgusting but also not enough food for people. We had to go to the bar and order drinks which is not a problem but when they are running out of drinks was a joke. The bill came to pound we could not believe it. for what when we complained they took nothing off of the bill and gave us a bottle of wine. I would not be recommending anyone and will definitely not be going back. Worst place I have ever been. If you want a good night and good food stay way from this place.

I was part of a large group and the food quality was poor. Meat fatty, salad incredibly disappointing. Greek salad is normally fresh and crisp....I got limp and a week or so from fresh. Avoid or lower expectations

Never again!!! To sum up; decided to take a friend for her birthday, what a mistake.... If you want a good Greek restaurant with a lovely vibe and good traditional music, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE. They advertise as the “Asteris” but have a sign...as the “New Abbey Taverna”.... at per head for a meze, we received the following: cold **** starters, most of which was from Tesco. The food arrived erratically and was “ice” cold. When we raised this as an issue, they took bits back and brought it back still only luke warm. After attempts we gave up on eating. They then insulted us as we expressed our unhappiness at the food and service. All the “manager” wanted to do was get “up close” and physical with half naked young women drunk and making a scene with ear piercing loud horrendous music!! Definitely not a family place, nor a place to enjoy food. After reading the reviews (after the event unfortunately) I have to say that never have I seen this many bad reviews and defensive responses from the management. The worst night out we have ever had. Will be asking trading standards to investigate as I believe they are trading very unprofessionally.
