After parking in the free car park, I ducked under the door sill and asked at the bar if they were serving lunch. Fortunately, they were! I opted for the beef and wine puffed pastry pie accompanied by spring onion mash, roasted carrots, and peas. I paired this with a pint of chilled Aspall's cider and enjoyed my impromptu meal outside in the sun. Despite the noise from the main road, this was a delightful place to take a break during my long drive. I learned that the King's Head is one of the oldest pubs in Essex, with parts of the building dating back 450 years and constructed using old ships' timbers. The service at the bar was welcoming and friendly. I would have liked to stay longer to chat and sample some of their variety of beers, but I was still driving and had a long journey ahead of me. Maybe next time.
The service at this restaurant was excellent and the food was delicious. I highly recommend trying the prawn cocktails, Pie of the day, and King Prawn Linguine. I was too full to try any desserts.
