Reservations recommended, the place is packed. Unfortunately, we also met the Snotty waiters mentioned in other reviews. Man, not all tourists are your natural born enemies; some of us have even wait for tables, just like you. He corrected his posture later, but one beautiful day someone will beat him with a dump.
You can sit very nice open air inside. Walk through the big gate into the courtyard. Nice to sit here. We didn't eat here!
... the clubs here are beautiful and there is usually also a seasonal menu, although not this time. The building is beautiful, it is in a large part of Erfurt, the food is good, the service is good and the prices also not too bad. I was a few times and had the same as the only German style Veggie option is pale with spinach, the others are pasta!? Apart from that, it is great for large groups or small, which is perfect for evenings with colleagues. I'll go again.
Read the menu online (in German and English) and then go and enjoy the Thuringian specialities. Mustard soup, wild garlic soup, sauerbraten (marinated beef stew) with plums and red cabbage, stuffed dumplings....all delightful. The local Born family started producing mustard in 1820...look at their own website and be amazed at the almost endless possibilities. Two visits for dinner...we'd certainly go again.
We always return to the Gueldenes Rad for its delicious traditional food and above all its fabulous outdoor seating. The service is friendly and efficient. In summer, our favorites are the various herring dishes, but also the traditional Thuringian Knoedel...
