We also had Escargot as an appetizer, which was so delicious. The bottom was because we sat outside, it was hard to hold the waiters sometimes. The Napoleon Dessert, which we had in the end, also tasted good, but the puff pastry was so hard that we had a steak knife to cut it. When we mentioned this to the staff, they did not really want to do something or act as if it were normal. Otherwise, I would definitely come back for dinner and just skip dessert.
We have been regular diners to this facility for many years before it became the flying toad. I like how they adapted to Covid and how the new outdoor dining area. The service personnel need better training and they need a dedicated greeting. You take a lot of chances of unusual food combinations and I'm not a fan. I prefer the traditional tried and true when I will pay $30-45 for a duck.
The food is phenomenal, I highly recommend it. This is not the place you go to when you are looking for a quick dinner on the cheap, meet a ride thru for that. This is fine food in downtown Escondido, where you can enjoy the atmosphere and enjoy the entire experience. Treat yourself or your date and enjoy the Flying Toad.
Amazing food and service. A jewel in Escondido. Don't try. You will not regret
This is a review of the Valentine's Day special menu only. The food was mixed and the service could have been better. The brie cheese and pesto appetizer was tasty, followed by a delicious soup. The main course prime rib was average while the salmon was delicious. The food came out too quickly for such large quantities, a little time to digest would have been appreciated. Also, the soup came out at the same time as the appetizer dish. They should have been staggered. Also, a glass of wine, ordered to pair with the main course, only came out 20 minutes later when the main course was mostly complete. Overall the ambience at this restaurant is good, and the regular menu looks great. I think the Valentine's Day dinner was not very good value for money and the service could have been better. The servers were very friendly and the outdoor dining was safely set up which means I would give the Flying Toad another chance.
