Shaul Bakery - Exeter

Felt like a breakfast and was really surprised with the quality of food. Service was great and food well presented and tasty.

Was served today by lovely polite staff. Both of us enjoyed good coffee and I had this really large apple turnover. Size did not compromise quality because it was beautiful. I hadn't realised it had fresh cream inside so bonus for me. Would definitely eat there again

I used to call in quite frequently, but found the staff too involved with chatting to each other, arrogant and dismissive. So I stopped going in. But I needed a coffee today, so stopped off at about 3pm, in the hope of an improvement. In the past I have found 2 ladies behind the counter to be off hand. One of those was on duty today. There was only 1 other customer in the cafe. The female staff member was engaged in conversation with someone out of sight in a rear room.... she took a while to drag herself away from her private chat. No greeting. I ordered a black coffee with cold milk. I also selected a pack of 4 hot cross buns. When I paid, my coffee was being prepared and I could see steam rising from the stainless steel jug used for the milk in my coffee. I asked if the milk was cold, and was told yes . As soon as I left I tasted the coffee and it was obvious the milk used was hot. Why lie? In view of the history of arrogance and indifference I did not go back, but resolved to write this review. Sadly, as I drove to Sowton, I tried the hot cross buns, which were stale and un interesting, despite being dated 22 03 19. So something is clearly wrong at this operation no wonder Greggs are taking over the marketplace.

We found this bakery in Topsham with a nice seating area and further seats upstairs. The value of the food was very good and the variety was nice. My partner had a jacket potato which was a very good size. It was a little hard in the middle but the staff were more than happy to rectify this with a fresh potato. I had the homemade soup and pasty, which I expected to be small but was given a large pasty of my choice (selection of 5 or 6!! . I would come back again.
