The room was unclean, with threadbare curtains and a mattress that was not fit for use due to missing slats causing it to sink in the middle. Despite complaining, the only alternative offered was a single room which meant my friend and I were separated. There was no offer of a refund for the inconvenience, including breakfast or parking. Overall, it was a disappointing experience.
We stayed in room 109, which was comfortable and clean. However, the breakfast room is in need of updating as the carpet is old and in poor condition. There was only one staff member handling breakfast orders, drink refills, table clearing, and food service, which was overwhelming for them. Despite these issues, the pub serves good food at reasonable prices and has a great location. It is clear that the pub is popular and attracts many customers, so it would be beneficial to improve the overall appearance of the public areas. It is time to invest in some renovations to give regular customers a better experience and keep them coming back.
Let me say that in the past we have eaten here without any problems. BUT OMG on Moday 6 November we waited an hour for our food to be served. It took me 10 minutes in aqueue at the bar to order, there was no sign of barman as it seems that he was also serving food. There were 2 groups of 2 ladies waiting to order, they had been waiting for quitea while when they aordered fortheir partoes they asked how long service would be they were told half an hour. I had to go to te hotel recption to finda duty manger, When the food came my wifes jacket potatoem skin was inpoossible to cut. It seems to me that the staff were run ragged this is no way to run a business when WETHERSPOONS IS DIRECTLY OPPOSITE THIS PUB
On arrival in the main bar, was informed that there was a half hour delay on food. As it was only 19.15 we decided to stay, although we had to leave at 20.45 to get our bus back home. We ordered our food at 19.33 (time on receipt). At 20.15 enquired as to where our order was and were informed that it was at present being cooked. It finally arrived at 20.35, leaving us with 10 minutes to eat our meal! This is not the first time we have been subjected to long delays for our food. We have been Marston shareholders for many years now and can honestly say that the service in the restaurant has declined, now to the point that we have decided not to return. Considering that The White Hart is a prominent hotel on the Exeter scene, its service is not good. It has a ‘get anywhere ‘menu, obviously trying to compete with the Wetherspoons opposite, and it is not working. Why is there not a daily/weekly menu, freshly cooked, like it used to have, the residents deserve better.
Really disappointing : didn't get the table requested at booking even though the people sat there had not reserved it; was initially told the 30% off voucher wasn't valid until November although clearly stated on the email that it ran until 13th October; informed couldn't get car park charge refunded if using the voucher; told couldn't upgrade size of wine with the steak deal (have always been able to do previously) and staff not very welcoming.
