Some of the dishes are slightly pricey, but I did order the Lamb Vindaloo. I do wish that I asked for extra spicy. The one thing I didnt like was that they didn't bring separate dishes of rice for each entree; instead they put two entrees- worth of rice on one plate. I'd like to come back one day and try the buffet. The portions were large, they are shareable or enough to take home.
Luncheon with friends, four people in total, meetup on a fluorescent overcast day with rain. We each ordered something different and shared our dishes; Chicken Vindaloo, Tandoori Chicken, Lamb, and Goat. Vindaloo at the default spice level was delicious, spicy enough to be stimulating, but, not hot enough to sweat indoors. I had a sweet lassi in case I had to extinguish the fire. No need, it was yummy. This restaurant has a Tandoori oven and a chef that knows how to use it, so the Tandoori Chicken was perfect, as were oven breads. Lamb ang Goat dishes were flavorful and nicely spiced. The rice, cooked with saffron, was a bit dry, but, sauced with entree gravies, was consumed fully. No deserts were ordered. Service was thin, as restaurants like Handii are recovering from the great COVID hoax, but, we were well attended, and the meal service was perfect from a guest perspective. I have dined at Handii numerous occasions, and have had brilliant service and excellent chefs, delivering outstanding meal experiences. This meal was good, prepared perfectly. The declining factor that was missing were tall experienced waiters, dressed in service clothes and red turbines hustling the expert-prepated food. I will eat there again. I am thankful that this iconic NoVA restaurant survived COVID business downturn.
Really delicious food, the Methi Chooza (chicken with a touch of fenugreek) was outstanding
I've been going to Haandi at least once a week for several years now. They do a great job with everything from matar paneer and saag murgh to baingan bharta and more complicated entrees. It's the only restaurant where everyone in our family has a favorite dish they're thrilled to eat. When we have friends in from out of town, we almost always get Haandi, too, because the food is so reliable--and the takeout portions are enormous. The staff is friendly and knows us by name. It's a pleasure to eat at Haandi.
Haandi is not just my favorite Indian restaurant, but my favorite restaurant all together. The staff is kind and thoughtful, and the food is spectacular. It's a beautiful interior and all around great dining experience. I've been many, many times, have sampled the full menu and have enjoyed everything I've tried. The curries are packed with flavor with generous portions. I can recommend the Methi Chooza as a personal favorite- it's a decadent and rich curry with a unique spice profile. The Gosht Patiala is a great lamb dish, and their seafood curries are unique and delicious. This is a truly authentic Indian restaurant with great regional specialties. Their appetizers and deserts are also on point. Try the Bhelpuri for a light and refreshing start to your meal and finish with the Gulab Jamon or homemade pistachio ice cream. Haandi is also my go to spot if want to bring together family or a large group for an elegant dinner. I feel very lucky to have such a quality Indian nearby to me and see myself coming for years in the future!
