Gone are the Indiana Jones pinball machine, the pool table and the pokies. Instead you’ll find a variety of taxidermy ! , a baby elephant figure, a Roman statue, and some mighty fine Chinese.
What a change this place has gone from run of the mill to top drawer. The kitchen has turned Hong Kong street food with a sharing mentality that includes vegetarian options and enough milder stuff for even the kids to enjoy themselves (ours loved the dumplings). Pair that with a choice selection of blues music and a great drinks list that gives attention to local talent (e.g. Willie the Boatman brewery) then top it off with some genuine LOLs from the fortune cookies, and Merivale have scored big time with this refurb. Put it on your list for sure.
Gone all (good) Thai bargain. The bloke here's been around Newtown for years with various establishments often in pubs. Seems to me this pub isn't on the trend wheel. Best laksa I have eaten for two years. Great balance with that all important depth of flavour I call it the length of the broth. $12 I'd expect to pay $18 for that. My colleague was equally immersed in his broth based dish so I didn't bother to ask.Super dooper and a bargain to boot.
Good sports pub, bad food. This is a cool spot to sit around and watch a few sports games with a few beers. There are always plenty of places to sit and the service is quick and easy. The food really lets the place down. We've eaten here about 5 times and each time it seems to be worse than the last. The last time we were there we had the steak sandwich which was almost inedible because it was so chewy. Stick to the beer and chips.
They 've upped their game! Hurray! Delicious feel good meals. This is just what Enmore needs right now.. Edit to update April 2014: I 've changed my review again. <br/ Yay! The menu has improved! <br/ Gourmet good value healthful food is back at The Queen; specials $15, happy hour discounts, and very thoughtful table service upstairs. Plenty of comfortable seating in stylish surrounds, fast service. I had dory fish with sweet potato mash, avocado, grilled lemon, nicely presented. Hubby enjoyed substantial serve of tasty gnocchi. We 'll be back <br/ : <br/ <br/ Edit to update February 2014:<br/ The menu has changed and the meals are now typical pub fare. Lacking in vego options. Fish and chips slimy overly battered fish, no salad. 'Wagyu ' steak dry, thin, poor taste, served on a pile of chips with no sauce or gravy. Stopped going there and hope menu changes back to being more gourmet because it 's a lovely place to eat. Sad.<br/ <br/ ......<br/ <br/ Old review:<br/ <br/ Last night I had the most beautiful and succelent dory fish fillet, lightly and perfectly fried. Served with sweet potato fries and a rocket cucumber red onion salad in a zingy balsamic dressing. <br/ <br/ My husband loved his halloumi burger with a really big slab of halloumi covered in caramelised onion. Next time he 's going to ask for the sweet potato fries too.<br/ <br/ God it was amazing. We felt really good afterwards. I couldn 't believe we were eating at a local pub bistro. Upstairs in the quiet dining room by the cocktail bar, the classy decor and ambience is world away from the pub downstairs. It feels like a European hotel restaurant. <br/ <br/ Excellent service I had to go downstairs to collect our meals when the beeper went off but the nice waiter offered to help me carry plates upstairs.<br/ <br/ An amaretto cocktail was the perfect dessert.<br/ <br/ Check it out!
