Generous pub portions good for extra long lunches or sharing. Good atmosphere, good prices and a TV is going. The staff are well presented and have good smiles. The location is in town and easy to spot.
We stopped in for dinner after spending a wet day hiking on Mt Taranaki. We ordered the wicked wedges for a starter. It came with a side of sour cream and what passes as salsa in New Zealand. Three stars For dinner I ordered the southern fried chicken and bacon sandwich. It was pretty good, crunchy and juicy. 4 stars. My wife ordered the great steak. Overall she said it was cooked well, but nothing to write home about. 3 stars. The service was exceptional. They were all really friendly and attentive, but they also knew enough to leave us alone unless we needed something. 5 stars. We would come here again, maybe not for dinner, but for drinks and service.
This House was not so crowded on this visit as it was the previous year. A newer menu that had more appeal though and no problem serving a group of 11 of us. Large servings of steak or burgers but somehow a little average on this trip. Not the best service this time round either, had to get them to hurry up on the drinks. The prices are much like Auckland. My steak wasn't the best quality and the onion rings a little oily. It's good enough grub after you have hiked a mountain for 10 hours though and good if you want to watch some sport or have a beer with the boys.
Food ok, service ok, atmosphere ok. Probably awesome to watch a game or something but average for a dinner out
It wouldn 't be New Zealand without a place called Crowded House This is a wonderful place to hang out and drink a few beers. Perhaps play a little pool. And the food is delicious!
