WE stopped by at Gerrards a few time during our stay in Mold. The staff were very friendly and the coffee and cakes excellent. We enjoyed our refreshments on the first floor by the window, a great place to watch the world go by. Kev Sheena Adamson, Durham UK
The options are usually a bit limited if you don't get there early enough and they could possibly keep the pasties and rolls warmer, but it's great value for money if you're in a rush.
Today, my husband and I visited this restaurant. There were two staff members behind the counter. My husband sat down while I purchased two hot chocolates, which were delicious. While waiting, I got in line again and purchased a whole loaf of bread, had it sliced, and paid for it. As I sat down to enjoy my drink, another staff member arrived behind the counter with a pen and clipboard, appearing to order stock. Despite serving customers and handling money, she never washed her hands. She started moving uncovered bread, still without washing her hands, and even dropped a loaf on the floor next to her shoes. She picked it up and placed it back on the surface, continuing to handle bread and write. Another staff member, who saw her drop the bread, put it back on the rack to be sold. I informed the assistant that the loaf she had just put with the other open loaves had been on the floor and she had put it back for sale. She said she would take it off and put it in the back, but I suggested she should throw it out. Concerned that the bread I purchased might have touched the floor, I decided not to eat it and left. It seems that the bread I purchased may have also been mishandled and potentially contaminated.
This restaurant is a bit tight, as some others have mentioned. The staff is courteous and accommodating. When I requested butter for my tea cakes, I was given a scoop of soft margarine instead, which didn't quite hit the mark for me. I ended up eating the tea cakes without any spread. It's just a matter of personal preference, but they could have informed me that there was no butter available. Overall, there are superior cafes to be found in Mold.
