Having lived just 10 minutes from Philly we were spoiled with REAL Philly Cheesesteaks and Pizza. Finding both in theSouth has been a venture. Recently we visited Rebel Pie in Florence at the advice of a friend and to say we got our fix is anunderstatement. The smell of wood burning can be detected as soon as you exit your vehicle from the Pizza ovens. We entered andgreeted by a very nice young lady who we found out was from Maryland. She would also be our waitress and she was great. Weordered the fired shrimp with bacon and blue cheese and they were delicious. For our pie choices we ordered a Margherita Pizzafor our 12 yr old daughter and we created a favorite choice from Michaelangelo 's in Philly...The basic pie with prosciutto(which is unheard of in most pizza shops in the South), spinach and basil. The pizza arrived and we were in heaven. Thin crustwith slightly browned and crisp edges (it could have been a little more done on the bottom, but it did not take away from theflavor). We devoured both pies and were completely satisfied. Not to take away from Rebel Pie because they had some interestingsounding desserts, but there was a Rita 's Italian Water Ice stand a few stores down and we had not had one of them in 6 yearsalso. We will be making Rebel Pie a regular stop when we visit Florence and don 't forget to properly tip your server.
WORST EXPERIENCE we have ever had! We waited over an hour for 2 pizzas (which we never did see). The 2 caprese salads we ordered came out wrong (no buffalo mozzarella). Finally got up to pay for the drinks and the chef tried to apologize. He gaveus our pizzas only to find out when we got home that it was the wrong order. Won 't go back.
This place is underrated to say the least. We stopoed there to eat lastnight on the way to the Casting Crowns concert. We started with the Woodford jumbo shrimp with blue cheese and bacon. This was the best tasting dish I have had in a very longtime. it is a must try and I will return again and get it. Then orderd a pepperoni mushroom pizza. It was a true New York pizzaand delicious. Lastely we ordered the pecan Danish pizza and OMG it is simply AMAZING!!!! If you are ever in Florence SC pleasestop by and show them some love!!!
Worst pizza of my life! Baking pizza in an 800 degree oven should not result in glue like dough. The bottom crust was not cooked and the dough under the toppings was uncooked (raw) and very wet. Further, the dough was not fluffy and light, but verydense. This is the result of using packaged dough , overproofed and handled far too much. It is impossible to get this qualityof pizza from a quality wood burning oven. To make matters worse, when I mentioned my concern to the staff, no offers were madeto resolve the issue. In the end, I wasted $75 . Far too much money for poor quality pizza. I will never return. By the way, Igave one star because I could not give zero. Save your money as well as you time.
The thing is scary looking and suspicious, but eating is amazing! do not let them be discouraged from its sad location, eating is handmade and tasty!
