Did you know HEB is one of the largest companies in America? I was surprised too. I was also surprised to find the Central Market in Ft Worth Texas just when I needed it! Step 1. Visit your banker and take out second Mortgage Step 2. Shop till you drop at Central Market Step 3. Enjoy That's the best recipe I know! Go!
HATCH CHILI SEASON, and the items in certain areas are in full force with Hatch Chilis right now. Walk into produce and they have a big area of fresh hatch peppers, of which we grabbed a handful. The fresh bread, they had a dozen or so different breads and desserts with hatch peppers in them. Hatch Chili Sourdough bread, Hatch Chili Lemon Cake, Hatch Chili Cookies, the list goes on. Around the corner, Hatch Chili hot recipes and cheeses, we tried some Hatch Chili Sushi, was really good!!! Still a great place to frequent, 90% of the items are ala carte, very little in mad produced packaging like at the normal HEB stores.
I really just want to give a shout out to ANA IN BAKERY!!!!! I swear I miss her when she's not working!!! She's the sweetest and her attitude is just amazing! Past time for an update. Central Market is my favorite grocery store in the metroplex. My one and only complaint (that doesn't really even count) is that it gets so crowded, but duh, everyone loves it here. It's not exactly the biggest store so it fills up quickly. I always want to leisurely stroll each aisle, so I don't come during peak traffic! Lunchtime can be especially busy because of the cafe and fresh chef-prepared food section, where anyone can find a delicious version of something they love to eat. During my last dine-in visit, I had delicious tomato bisque, this Mediterranean salad that I loooove made with salami, cheese, and peppers, a bag of Central Market waffle-cut potato chips, and a bottle of Tempranillo Blanco from the refrigerated drink section. Jon had an enormous quesadilla, cilantro lime rice, cream of mushroom soup, and some canned beer. All reasonably priced and it's so fun to put your own lunch together. We ate outside on the patio because the weather was fair, which we all know is rare. After lunch we strolled through the market because it wasn't crowded. We could spend forever browsing produce but I'm always especially in awe of the cheese department and bakery. There are just so many beautiful cheeses and this insane variety of gorgeous breads and pastries. Central Market focuses on featuring local goods and I love how they really lean into the holidays and celebrations of so many different cultures. I always learn something new, like recently I learned what Colomba di Pasqua is (it's a sweet Italian traditional Easter bread). The floral department is also a must-see every visit. It smells incredible and the flowers are stunning. They have some really lovely affordable bouquets and you can also put your own arrangements together, they sell plenty of flowers by the stem.
