We had some coffee at the bar and chatted with the bartender and hostess super nice people. They said they would be opening for dinner in a bit. We went on down East end road and when our wanderlust was satisfied we returned to The Homestead for dinner. This is a fine dining place with outstanding food and wine without all the pretentiousness that can come with that experience. They sat a table near the window for us. It's casual fine dining. I had a halibut dish and my husband had another fish dish (don't recall what it was). Both were amazing. Fantastic fresh flavor. Waitress was great as we're all the staff. You would NEVER guess looking at this place from the outside that you would have the fantastic fine dining experience inside. You can tell the locals come here and that says something. Forget all the tourist **** on the spit and head a bit out of town to enjoy this local place. Easily one of my best meals. I loved it and can't wait to go back next summer!
What a fantastic little gem just outside of Homer! I had already enjoyed dinner at the Spot but was in the mood for dessert as I headed out of town to take in some lovely views of the bay. I was thrilled to find out that they make all their desserts from scratch. The pavlova topped with fresh berry compote was simply delicious. The bartender also crafted some incredible cocktails, including my delightful chocolate-cherry martini. I opted to sit at the bar, but the dining room appeared very elegant with its white tablecloths.
Service was acceptable but not very attentive, and an 18% gratuity was automatically added to the bill for just five people. Those who ordered cocktails found them tasty but lacking in kick. The wine selection by the glass was poor, though there were plenty of bottles available. Overall, I left feeling disappointed after spending $50-60 per person. My advice? Skip this place and spend your money elsewhere; you’ll be happier for it. Live and learn.
There were four of us in our group, three of whom had the special scallops, while I opted for the silver salmon, which was also one of the day's specials. All dishes were superb, and only good manners prevented one of our party from licking his plate clean! For dessert, we shared the crème brûlée and pavlova, both of which were beautifully presented and provided a sublime conclusion to our meal.
