We planned another visit this summer and our Island hopping schedule in part around this visit. I emailed them months ahead to make a reservation and was told they don’t do this anymore and that it is just walk ins this summer. It might be their Sister restaurant Charmer on any particular evening, but it would welcome us any night as a walk in. We showed up about 6:40 PM on a Thursday and were told that they were likely out of food for the evening. I asked how could that be that early in the dinner service and the hostess divulged that they were expecting many guests later that evening. It turns out that if you come in when they open at 5 PM and put your name in, you can reserve a table that night and don’t have to stay to hold it. For those who may visit once a year and were not told about this and come without a car, well too bad. There was nothing but a quick sorry. That is no way to treat people who try to cooperate with your policies and come a great distance to enjoy your destination establishment. Very disappointed!
At the ripe old age of 66 it's rare for me to taste anything I haven't tasted before, or that reminds me of something I've had before, but my recent glorious evening at pilgrim has changed all that. Each of the many was it 8? courses was exquisite unique, mind bogglingly delicious, and complete unto itself we didn't wish for more, or less each was perfect and I don't use that word, so ubiquitous now, lightly, or inaccurately. The service was also excellent the servers were pleasant, professional, graceful, and engaging as they described each course down to the most minute and interesting detail, making us salivate over what we were about to enjoy, their descriptions of each exactly right: an awe inspiring compilation of ingredients, flavours, and preparation techniques. My companion chose the wine pairing option, and again, each new glass of wine, a different wine for each course, was described with scintillating descriptors. I can't recommend this dining experience enough it was simply superb in every way. Well, except one: the reservation process, which ought to make one feel elated anticipation in the knowledge that one has smoothly and easily secured entry to the most amazing place, was for me REALLY user unfriendly, and made me feel I'd been through an unpleasant ordeal. I KNOW there are easier ways to make your guests feel positive about their coming dining adventure.
Excellent well executed service , plating was Profesional and neat. Over the twelve courses the tastes and aromas ran the gamit. Nothing was too rich , or too salty. My only concern where the napkins, and a moth came with my drink.
Ehh, we really wanted to love this place and experience but felt it did not live up to the hype. The setting is gorgeous, and the room is small with good safety protocol however there was no atmosphere. The music was awful, think somber acoustic wailing singer. Perhaps, some blues, jazz or something a tad bit more upbeat to create some sort of atmosphere so we weren’t all whispering would perk the place up. Our server was excellent, and knew the menu inside out. Now the food... it was just not our thing. Perhaps our taste buds aren’t as refined as all the other reviews but the dishes started getting repetitive. Majority of the dishes were fermented and doused in tangy rich sauces. We would have loved a bit more simple dishes where we could actually taste the beautiful bounty. The portions were small but perhaps a combo of all the rich sauces we were full by the end. They say the menu changes every day, but looking at people’s photo it looks like only a couple ingredients change not the entire menu. For $95 a person, we found this meal steeeep. Sure the restaurant is remote but the majority of the items are foraged locally or from nearby islands. Fermenting is always very affordable, and stretches portions. We understand costs are expensive but at this price was really up there for what it was. We asked for a couple lemon slices, and they had none... We had high hopes, perhaps just too high. Glad we tried this for a different experience, but for the prices they are charging and the menu items we will give this place a miss...
Six of us attended the 10 course 2019 New Year’s Eve tasting menu. The food was glorious, grounded in seasonal offerings of the Pacific Northwest. The flavour and texture combinations were fascinating and every beautifully plated dish a treat to explore. The staff are so knowledgeable and the atmosphere warm and relaxed. A local treasure on a world-class scale. Outstanding!
