Venados Cantina (aka Buck's West)

I wish I could give zero stars. The kitchen closes at 9 PM on Sundays, and when I called at 7 PM to place a to-go order for twelve, I was put on hold for ten minutes. When I called back, the phone was turned off. It seems they would rather watch the Astros game than take my order. I tried for another thirty minutes, but the phone remained off. This is such a typical experience at this place. I don't know why I keep returning for this repeated disappointment. The service is consistently slow, and the food is only mediocre. Unfortunately, there aren't many options on the west end, so I keep trying to make it work with Venados out of sheer necessity. It feels like the place is run by teenagers who simply don't care. The owner must either be unaware of the issues or perhaps doesn't need the business. Instead, I called Sea Isle Marina Restaurant, and they promptly took my order, had it ready on time, and it was perfect. I'm actually relieved that Venados turned off their phone; it spared me from further disappointment. If anyone at Venados reads this, I want to say that the west end of Galveston would greatly benefit if you sold to a competent restaurant owner or manager who knows how to run the place properly. Also, just a heads up—your fajitas are something of a running joke among those of us in the Jamaica Beach neighborhood. Food: 1, Service: 1, Atmosphere: 1.

The service was excellent, and the food was enjoyable. The atmosphere felt more like a sports bar, with TV monitors throughout the place. We had dinner, and the price per person was around $20–30. I would rate the food a 4 out of 5, the service a 4 as well, and the atmosphere a 3. I highly recommend trying the Tacos Al Carbon!
