Fantastic hidden gem inside of Galway. Best Japanese food I've ever had and on multiple occasions. The chef never disappoints, with numerous day only specials, great selection of drinks (Sake, classic japanese beers). Would always recommend.
Booked for Easter Sunday night .. 7.30pm. A birthday celebration dinner. Took direction from TripAdvisor as to best Sushi restaurant in Galway and booked over email .... rec 'd a reply asking me to confirm my booking for Sunday 7.30pm Apr 9th ... which I duly did. Arrived on a wet miserable evening to find the restsurant had a CLOSED sign outside. We went in anyway to find a small group eating but no serving staff. We stood around for a few minutes until eventually someone popped up behind the counter and said We are closed ... I told him that I had a reservation ... after some mumbling he offered us a table and presented us with 2 menus. He advised us that we could select from the Mains but that starters or appetisers were not available. We had a look at the menu but felt the evening was destroyed .. we were evidently not welcome even though the reservation was valid and confirmed. We left and thankfully got a table at Èan restaurant a short distance away. Friendly staff and good if unusual food. We will be back there again. To be fair to Kappa Ya I rec 'd an email the following day apologising for the situation but explaining that my reservation had not been confirmed . I replied copying the email exchange which clearly shows the opposite ... It was a very disappointing and embarrassing evening ... what should have been a celebration and a chance to savour what was supposed to be some of the best Sushi turned out to be a potential disaster only recovered by another restaurant being flexible and accommodating us. Good restaurants don 't make these elementary mistakes and moreover don 't double down and try the following day to blame the customer when it evidently was their fault. Kappa Ya will forever be remembered for this embarrassing event and not for its food. Therefore potential diners if you wish to avoid embarrassment EAT ELSEWHERE
After spending so long trying to find authentic Japanese food in ireland, we made it our business to eat here. The food took a while but good food always does. Also its a one man show so patience is key but the food is genuinely 10/10. 100% eating here the next time we are in Galway.
I encourage anyone to try this restaurant. My partner and I read about this restaurant on a food blog and booked it based on that review. We couldn’t have been happier! We were welcomed kindly and started with a beautiful aperitif of sake. The meal was both stunning and delicious, we were also offered and accepted a sake tasting which was explained to us by the owner. The experience was not dissimilar to that of any highly acclaimed restaurant. Cannot thank the owner enough. It was a brilliant and calming evening.
