I had a ham, leek and cheese quiche and my husband had cauliflower and cream cheese soup. This hit the spot on a cold rainy day. We didn't have trouble finding a table, but that could be a problem if a lot of bus tours are there at the same time.
The restaurant has more of a cafeteria feel than a traditional restaurant. We only tried a sweet snack here, so I cannot speak to the other menu items, but we greatly enjoyed our tea and cakes. The Victoria sponge was light and airy, not overly sweet. My husband's chocolate cake was rich and decadent without being too heavy. Both slices were generously sized and paired perfectly with a nice cup of tea on a cold, rainy day. We found the prices to be fair, and there was ample seating available.
Please see my review for Mitchell’s cafe The Abbey is Spectacular the information is first class The staff immediately impressed us with their knowledge and willingness to help They were so friendly and informative and appeared to be loving their job A wonderful experience and not to be missed The views are unbelievable and a beautiful setting Loved it Five Stars
The abbey restaurant has a nice selection in a pleasant setting— both indoor and outside (although it was raining the day we visited). The restaurant was clean and the staff friendly.
Mitchell's Cafe is an excellent example of how to provide good healthy food to large numbers of visitors in an efficient friendly manner. The queue was long when we arrived around 1.30pm one wet day in August. However the line kept moving and the variety of food was great. We had an excellent lunch and it was good value. Highly recommend. Very well organised.....hats off to the Abbey team.
