Eastern Promise - Gateshead

It is disappointing that this restaurant used to be much better. The food is of poor average quality. The popadoms were cooked in old oil and had a really unpleasant taste. I paid £1 for a very small portion of onion salad, it was ridiculously tiny (almost equivalent to 2 teaspoons). I will be contacting the local food standards agency to inspect their kitchen hygiene. I had to throw away my order because my starter was so bad that I did not want to risk trying anything else.

We used to be regular customers when Raj owned the restaurant, but we have only been twice since the new owners took over. The kebab meat was dry, the chips were undercooked, and the pizza base was still doughy. The portions are much smaller now and the quality has really gone downhill. I have posted this review here because they keep deleting negative reviews from their own website. Just a heads up if you plan on ordering from this restaurant.

I had the Tandoori Mixed Grill and a Sri Lankan Chicken curry. Both dishes were delicious and made with fresh ingredients. I highly recommend them.

This is the se old time we've ordered, rang at 6.15 on a Saturday, guy said it would be with us within the hour, which is far, it's only 5 minutes up the road. Food arrived at 8.30! And that was after I called to ask where it was. Food was good, plenty, and good flavour, but service very poor.

Ordered from Eastern Promise while staying in the area on holiday. Had the Happy Hour special and really enjoyed. Great value for money with huge portions. Tikka rice is amazing.
