It was our Wedding Anniversary and we chose this restaurant......so we arrived and waited quite awhile to be greeted, the reception desk lady left us to go somewhere and we waited and waited, until a gentleman came to ask if he could seat us......finally.....we wanted a banquette and we saw a few empty ones and he said, no, those are used for parties of 4 people, eventhough we saw couples sitting at a few of them.....so our experience kept on going down......eventually we sat near a window.......we were given a basket with squished unfresh bread that looked so small in the big basket, I asked the waiter if he had bread with no sesame seeds because of allergies and he just said no, you would think they would have a bun or another piece of bread or some bread sticks or something....nope....that's all he said and left......he came back with a very dirty menu that was torn down the middle, it was very disgusting, you'd think, with the prices they charge, they could afford new menus....oh boy, we looked at each other and said, if the Chef or Director of this establishment can let dirty menus, fingerprinted water glasses as we both received, a greeting as we received when we first came in and a waiter who couldn't care less.....we looked at each other and I said to my husband.....if they treat their guests like this, imagine how tbey must be in the kitchen....the Chef, nor the director mustn't care for this restaurant and neighter it's guests, so........we got up and just left....went to another restaurant and they got our money instead.........They must'nt be very clean in their kitchen if they can send out stale squished bread, finger printed water glasses, torn and dirty menus......yackkkk......stay away......and stay healthy.
We ate last night at the Au Vieux Duluth. I had the butterflied pork loin with shrimp and it was one of the best piece of pork that I have had a restaurant. The pieces were bacon wrapped that held in the moisture and flavor. It was accompanied with rice, roasted potatoes and a salad with a warm house dressing. This is a chain restaurant in Quebec but the food was excellent.
My family and I stopped at the Vieux Duluth for dinner. The reception was friendly, polite and efficient. We were brought to our table quickly. The waiter for our table was equally friendly, polite and efficient as well as being attentive to our requests. The food was something else. First, it took a long time to get our plates (somewhere between 30 to 45 minutes). The Oregano Chicken was dry and tasteless. The accompanying salad had been cut in huge chucks and was mushy. For her part, my wife was satisfied with her vegetarian plate and my sister- in-law mentioned that while her chicken was dry too, the rest was fine. I went to the Vieux Duluth many times and to various locations. Generally, the food was enjoyable. I am not certain what happened this time. It seems that the Vieux Duluth is now providing huge plates of food to the detriment of quality and taste. As an aside, I had a look at the kitchen while on my way to the washroom. I must admit, I was not impressed. I know that we were the at the peak time with the restaurant being full, however, the kitchen looks like an hurricane's aftermath. Still, I recommend this restaurant only if you are looking for a cheap place that serves tons of ordinary food.
