Walking through the alleys of the genova in search of the real trenettes to the hand-made pesto and with the fresh basil of pesto, you come across this street where the osteri preserve the ancient goto of the taverns where the laundries met to eat something between one intersection and the other and therefore here everything is spartan, essential, however the goodness of the hand-made trenettes and the freshness only of the fish
Tucked away in one of Genoa's narrow streets (the via San Bernardo), one of the few we could find that contained several restaurants to choose from, is this unassuming little osteria with low timbered ceilings very much serving local food from local people. I doubt there are more than about eight tables. We were served in a very personal, attentive way, a three course meal with the first two courses for EUR 16. I had a very good big plate of pasta (not at all oily) followed by a tastily seasoned pork fillet, and my companion another big plate of good pasta followed by beef. For dessert we shared some decent profiteroles, definitely home-made, but a rather small portion even if it had been for just one person. The service was good, the place was peaceful (it was a sunday evening) and I believe they are quite well liked locally. Somewhere I'd recommend as fairly reliable for decent food but nothing specacular. Don't expect a private conversation though because the tables are pretty close to each other!
I ended up in this smallish place after having wandered across the old town for a bit too long. The staff was not too friendly to welcome me very fast. Actually, they were also having their own dinner in one table. As their menu is only in Italian, I did not actually know what to expect. Maybe this was an authentic place, maybe not. Nothing too expensive and not to rip off tourists. I was not left hungry, only felt a bit confused.
Walking around in the “caruggi” of the historical centre, in the middle between the main square and the old harbour, this place is the perfect spot to enjoy quality food in a cozy and friendly atmosphere. The people working there are humble and special people to talk with. They care about you and they just want to give you the best service. Sea food is a must here. I have tried the sword fish with artichokes, awesome ! See you soon for sure
