We enjoyed a perfect day visiting the new museum, taking both the Gullah and the house tour as well as having a fantastic late lunch at the tea room. I highly recommend spending a day at this stunning property and learning from the well informed staff and owners. My parents were able to manage well enough on the grounds using a rolling walker and canes. The food in tea room was top notch, reasonably priced with pleasant service. Enjoy a day stepping back in time and learning about the history of the plantation and people who left their mark on this land.
Parked up and was directed to the tea house to register. The lady there was rude and stated she was busy and we would have to wait. After waiting a considerable time most people started to leave. We asked another young girl about the visit. She took money for the visit but said they had run out of passes and did not know when the tour would start. We hung around for more information but no one came so like most other visitors we just left. Probably the most unfriendly and unhelpful place we visited in the area. The only thing they appeared to be good at was taking your money but offered nothing in return.
We had a gal pal day at Hopsewee! We did the Art of Indigo Tie Dyeing class....it was awesome! We learned so much of the history from our instructor, Linda! And we made 3 pieces, a purse, a dish towel and a small grocery bag. Then we topped off our afternoon with a lovely lunch at their restaurant!!!! We even topped it off with a decadent dessert!!!!! Highly recommend this class AND restaurant!!!
Had tea/lunch in the tea room and toured the historic home. Bambi, the retired Marine drill sergeant, was our tour guide, and she was super informative and funny to boot! We also thoroughly enjoyed petting the resident cats on the grounds. We are looking forward to the opening of the new museum section. We've been here many times, and we keep returning because it's a wonderful atmosphere and very educational! Next summer, I plan to take the indigo class!
I had afternoon tea here. I wouldn 't recommend it. The food itself is standard. The service is awful. The waitress/ host is in way over her head. She can 't handle all the tables. She 's polite enough but not great at her job. I asked for a glass of champagne to celebrate my birthday. I had to ask several times and what was brought to me was a barely half full glass and was told if you really want, I can open another bottle . I couldn 't believe it. There are much better places for afternoon tea, I recommend going elsewhere.
