If you're lucky, local venison will be on the 3-choice menu. The two young waiters work their socks off and there are no over-long waits. There garbure is pretty authentic and if you haven't had that before here's a good opportunity. As other reviewers emphasise, the portions are enormous and the style is hearty rather than fine dining, so well worth coming with an appetite to match. This time we cycled up to the Col to feel able to justify it !!
We have been coming here every year for the last 10 years. Meals are always good value and you come away feeling very full! It has changed a little over the years as Lou Lou doesn't tend to cook so much and the portions are not as generous but they were too generous previously! Service is great and if you leave a tip the bell gets rung. Lou Lou always has a lollipop for the children too which they love. Charges for the children are very reasonable too.
We had been recommended to eat here by our estate agent while looking for somewhere to buy in the area. Her praise for the food and for Loulou was so high that we had to try it out and we were not disappointed by either! The soup was the first hurdle, a whole tureen was brought out for just the two of us, thick and tasty and a meal in its self. Then plate after plate of food beyond compare served by friendly staff and a chef who, when in good humour, just tops off an excellent meal. DO NOT MISS THIS EXPERIENCE
I never go to Bagnères without having dinner at Loulou's. This is the place to go when you are in the area. Over the past 20 years I have introduced many of my friends, including a number of Americans to this typical Pyrenean restaurant. There you can taste the "Garbure" and wonderful game dishes prepared with love by Loulou and his team. The portions are over generous, but keep some appetite for the local cheeses and delicious deserts followed by a large serving of Armagnac. I highly recommend the experience whenever you are in the area.
I've been to this place many times, and always ate very well. Don't eat anything else the day you go to LouLou! After a massive feast of traditional mountain fare, you'll finish off with a dose of armagnac from a beaker bottle. Roll home!
