The menu was rather limited but included several regional specialties. Service was slow, but not painfully so. The food was also OK, neither memorably good nor bad. Peterchen's epitomizes all the faults and benefits of a chain restaurant.
We shared quiche and salad which was served with style and two sets of cutlery. Delicious also the hot chocolate and beer. Service was cheerful and the view wonderful.
In 1963, I took my visiting fiancee for an incredible dinner of chateaubriand to this restaurant, which has a wonderful location at the top of Wasserkuppe, home of gliders and sail planes. After the meal, we sat by the fire and enjoyed cognac. Many years later, and now as a married couple, we returned to the memorable scene of our youth. It seems to have become a tourist trap, with accompanying bland food and rushed service. I had the worst wienerschnitzel I ever had in my 5 1/2 years in Germany, a crispy imitation that was tough and flavorless. I give it 3 dots, because the location is to be savored, and the planes and people are fun to watch.
Nice local restaurant. Place can be really crowded during meal time, because there are not so many choices in the neighborhood. Reservation is recommended during peak weekend meal time.
