The MORE Cafe and Bakery at 1057 Gibsons Way seems to be known mostly locally but it would deserve to be more widely known. We must have driven by dozens of times, but we discovered it only by walking around in Upper Gibsons. Now that we found it, it will likely become one of our favorite stops. Even though it seems to be specializing in pastries, which are most delicious, one can also have one of the many varieties of excellent coffees, including an exquisite espresso. I tried the double baked croissant, which I never had elsewhere, and it was perfect, crisp and still flaky, multi layered and buttery. My wife had the chocolate torte, which was favourably comparable to the Viennese Sacher torte. It is understood, that a bakery would also have a variety of breads. Surprizingly one can also have a most delicious soup, made fresh daily, and all kinds of sandwiches are made to order, fresh and with high quality ingredients. I had the fresh real turkey sandwich and my wife, who is a vegetarian, got a cream cheese, egg, tofu, avocado and greenery sandwich on multigrain bread. The decor is simple and it being a smalish place. it accomodates only a few small tables. The prices are a few percent higher, but the high quality of the ingredients used, and the meticulous attention to excellence of the goods amply compensates for it.
I like to start the morning here, read the newspaper while sipping their rich espresso with the tasty, milk free muffin.
I was up the hill at Black Bean Roasting, but it was too soon for coffee. Then the ladies found the shops they were looking for. Luckily I was directed to a used-book store, housed in a building with several other micro-stores ... and More Cafe. It looked like a little counter with a few tables. Then I noticed the top-level espresso machine, and a largish case full of very attractive pastries. Hmm. I'm a mainland coffee snob, so I ordered an Americano, short on the water so I can taste the coffee. It was first-class. The ladies arrived, and Herself had a cappucino. She's a cappucino snob too, and pronounced hers excellent. We couldn't try the pastries (see my review of our B&B) but I commented that they looked delicious and the counterman said they were all baked right here. Nice guy too. Recommended.
A great place to pause and enjoy a delicious in in house baked croissant, muffin, cookie, and 'more' with great coffee. Run by a friendly and community oriented couple who really put their all into their business. Service is warm and the home made soups are very tasty. They also have a take out location in lower town Gibsons.
