I made booking in advance and told the lady over the phone that it's my wife's birthday which she acknowledged as well as made a note of her name and confirmed that she would give us a birthday menu(whatever menu that is) and a complimentary birthday dessert with a Happy Birthday message written on the plate. However...Nothing materialized. When I approached the staff, all we got was oops, sorry about that, it was written down but we didn't take heed of it. So after dropping a R900 bill for dinner and potentially having a new patron, you won't be getting my business any time soon and I think a casual dining restaurant would have went the extra mile. Don't get me wrong I am not looking for freebies but it's that extra attention to detail that makes all the difference for a special occasion and unfortunately you did not deliver.
The Black Rabbit is exquisite in every possible way and is fine dining at its best. The food is absolutely phenomenal and the duck is by far the best I have ever eaten (and I have eaten duck in many a fine establishment over the years). I will definitely be back for that dish again. The menu is varied and caters for everyone with several good vegetarian options. My guests raved about their meals including the Kingklip cooked in garam masala spices, the rigatoni carbonara, the pizzas and of course the perfectly decadent creme brûlée and panacotta. The chef is incredibly talented and has the flavours on point because every meal is a sensory experience. Staff are helpful, unobtrusive and very polite. The style and decor of the restaurant is impressive and true to the elegant brasserie feel. I will definitely be frequenting this fine establishment and entertaining business clients there too. My new favorite restaurant in KZN hidden away in beautiful Hillcrest. Keep it up Black Rabbit. We will definitely be back soon.
What a night!!! I had the most memorable 50th Birthday 'Christmas Menu ' dinner at The Black Rabbit with my family who were also left utterly impressed, especially knowing that my son Diego works in such an upmarket restaurant everything was brilliant, the service, food, champagne and shooters . Highly recommended restaurant Obrigada
When Black Rabbit initially reopened after Lupa (few years ago), we visited a few times but were somewhat disappointed. This could have been due to some teething issues at the time. However, after some time, we decided to give it another try, and we’re so glad we did! From the moment I phoned to make a booking, I was struck by how professional the experience was. The lady on the phone was clearly well-trained and exceptionally polite, asking all the right questions. When we arrived, the welcome was warm and inviting. Cath, our waitress, was truly excellent—attentive and always nearby when we needed anything, without being intrusive. The food? Outstanding. Honestly, the seafood marinara was one of the best I’ve had in years. It reminded me of the quality Lupa used to deliver years ago, before it became franchised. We were seriously impressed by the entire experience, from start to finish. We’ll definitely be back!
I have been to the black Rabbit 3 times and I enjoyed every visit. Their food is always made perfectly and served by the friendliest waiters . With that being said , I do have an issue with the unisex restroom . I had an experience yesterday (which I don't want to make a mountain out of a mole hill) that did seem abit odd and others noticed it too. The restroom was filled with ladies , I went in and came out to let a waiter know that there was no toilet paper. When I came out , two men that were standing not far from the toilets saw me walk out and walk back into the toilets. They saw the other ladies leave and saw me go in alone. Just as I was about to leave , these two men walked into the toilets. Keep in mind, if there is two toilets and one person is using the restroom, only one toilet is available. Whether they both genuinely needed to use the restroom while a female was in there isn't my concern, but it just doesn't feel comfortable that both men and woman can use the toilets at the same time. There is also no space either to wait to use the restroom as well. It was also extremely busy and rowdy due to year end company dinners, so no one will really pay attention to what's going on in the restrooms. It's more of a concern for safety than a bad review.
