Service was good, not fantastic but very friendly. Food was a little disappointing. I ordered the 2 piece English fish and my 2 year old had the shrimp platter. Both of our meals had the homemade French fries which had an odd burnt taste. It's probably from old oil, I didn't complain but I'm sure they would have made it better. The place was packed and everyone very friendly. I'd probably give it another chance.
I'd never heard of this place until a friend mentioned it recently in Halifax, so when I was visiting Cape Breton for the Thanksgiving weekend, I wanted to give it a try. I called someone that lives in Glace Bay to see if she wanted to try it with me, and she had been there before too, and seems to know the very friendly staff and regular customers. lol We arrived about 9am on a cloudy Sunday and the place was about half full. I'd say it has seating for about 30 or 40? Several booths and tables, just in a small house-style property, simple but nice decor, kind of cosy. I was most impressed with the variety on the menu. For breakfast, you often see just a few basic selections, but I had trouble deciding what to order here. Ended up going with the hash (which I don't see on their online menu at the moment), so forget how much it was. It was very good and filling, full of mushrooms, peppers, bacon, cheese, onion, home fries, topped with an egg or two and side of toast. I will definitely be back here!
Colette's is a booming spot in Glace Bay. It's always busy, and for a good reason. The restaurant itself is cozy and welcoming and the service is top notch! They have a great menu with lots of choices from all day breakfast to specialty poutines to seafood platters and deep fried ice cream! If you haven't tried it before it's a must.
I am a carrot cake fanatic so when I saw this place and their carrot cake on 'You Gotta Eat Here ' I decided that was where I was eating my birthday cake last year! Well worth the drive from Montreal ; We ordered the Festive poutine which truly was a Thanksgiving poutine with stuffing in it! I live in the land of poutine, yet I still think about that poutine : After our mains we asked about the carrot cake (as we had planned a trip around this and the woman who makes it (Karen? Carol? super sweet lady- was sitting right beside us at the counter! So we got a pretty large piece!! Everything was so good- we ordered some clam chowder and carrot cake to go with us! I love how cozy the place is and the food tastes like your Grandma spent days in the kitchen to make it! Can 't wait to visit again!
