In the John Muir Room we were given a tiny table by the gents, in the dark, and with no tablecloth. We were not offered our welcome drink and had to ask for it. One kind server saw us trying to eat by the light of our phone torches and brought one of the wee lit decorations which helped. Starters were good, as were the vegetables with the main, but the turkey was terrible (looked and tasted reconstituted rather than a real bird) as was the wholly inadequate apology for a chocolate tart with barely any filling and stale pastry. The staff were doing their best we didn't inflict our extreme disappointment on them. There was too much noise from the bar and the music was awful as soon as a classic Christmas song started it was changed for something aggressive. We tried not to be miserable for each others' sake, but it is not a memory we will cherish.
Very slow service pre ordered and still didn’t see our starters until 1.20pm we sat down at 12pm. Everything very slow. Food average kids food very basic in particular. Overall poor value for money including a £22 service charge on a pre ordered set menu, which took hours to be served. We also booked the john muir but ended up in the brasserie no big deal but generally didn’t seem very well organised.
My whole experience was influenced by the seating arrangements. I had booked the table about 2 months beforehand online and a few days later confirmed in person at OM and asked to be seated at a particular table. The table had not been reserved and I saw it booked on the system which was on a tablet. The reason the table was important was that one of our party is a wheelchair user and has significant hearing issues and this was explained as the reason for the table selection. When I arrived at OM for the Xmas panto I checked again at the restaurant only to find we had been moved out of the restaurant into the bar. I explained the background but alas when we arrived for our table we did not get what was requested. The food was good if not exactly what was on the menu, wrong drinks delivered but I get it, it was very busy and it happens but there was no excuse for the seating failure. I hope it has improved because I go back this Thursday and have booked the same table for a different reason and will be a very unhappy bunny if it is not available.
Friendly and comfortable. Good food portions. Relaxed atmosphere
Good food, nice venue. Had the cullen skink which was lovely.
