Business name has changed to Pizzeria on Barkly New owners have added all sorts of animal pieces and secretions to the menu. There 's no V vegan anywhere on the menu... probably because it 's 99% non-vegan. There is no vegan cheese option They 've kept the Ala Turko and Bezalya, but that 's pointless without the vegan cheese. Updated from previous review on 2022-12-19
Lots of toppings. Heavy pizzas! I like the crusts. Old school veggie pizza.
We were excited to try this place. Service was good. We ordered two pizzas. They were both quite bland and mushy. Wouldn't rush back. Updated from previous review on 2021-06-12 Updated from previous review on 2021-06-14
I was in the mood for pizza and I really wanted to love this place... but it just wasn't a good experience. When we entered we were not greeted, which is whatever, but when it came to actually making the order and being served, the customer service was appalling. I was very friendly and polite but made to feel very unwelcome like a nuisance. The attendant didn't look at us or speak to us at all. I can't express how poor the service was, it's been a long time since I've had such poor service at an eatery. The garlic pizza was nice, but unfortunately the other pizzas had basically no flavour at all. It was kind of just like bland mush, with no seasonings or strong flavours present. Perhaps I just ordered a bad flavour... but when I tried my friend's pizza, it was the same. The whole place was really dirty, there were cobwebs and grime in the bathroom, and the outdoor area was covered in dust and filth. It's clear that this restaurant is not cleaned often, if at all. I noticed a weird taste when drinking their water, and saw that the bottom of the glass bottle was covered in a thick whitish-pink film. I don't like leaving a review like this for a vegetarian restaurant, because I really appreciate what they do for animals. I feel bad actually, but I'm just being honest about my experience. I would not return to this eatery.
We've eaten at the St. Kilda location at least five times. The pizzas have all been great (not undercooked as another reviewer commented). Our favourites have been the Mexicana (we always get one); the Dhal; and the Margarita. But we have yet to try a pizza that we wouldn't give at least three stars. The pizzas aren't quite like a typical cheese pizza but are probably a lot healthier for you. The crust seems like a cornmeal-type crust and it's piled high with ingredients. The emphasis here is on toppings more than cheese. We haven't tried the vegan cheese yet but the rennet-free cow's milk cheese is fine. Updated from previous review on Sunday December 04, 2011
