The food never disappoints in terms of flavour whatever you choose from an extensive menu...and the service is always attentive without being overbearing. Well done Kung Thai you deserve 5 stars Thank You
We stumbled on this gem while visiting friends in Durban. The server/manager was fantastic. She suggested dishes and was quick to accommodate our preferences. The starters of puu cha (prawn crab donuts) and shao mai (dim sum dumplings) were hot, fresh, and delicious. One highlight, suggested by our server, was the crispy duck. The skin was crispy, sauce was a pleasant mix of spicy/sweet. After many disappointing duck dishes in our recent past, Kung Thai exceeded expectations. We were pleasantly surprised by Kung Thai and look forward to going back next visit to Durban.
Great place to relax, has a good atmosphere. The crispy duck and egg fried noodles are amazing.Food had the most beautiful aroma and flavour. Had an absolutely wonderful evening.
I love Thai food, and Kung Thai doesn’t disappoint. <br/ <br/ There’s a great outside deck area, which is perfect in summer, thought in winter I prefer to sit inside. The owner is invariably around keeping an eye on things and occasionally taking an order. <br/ <br/ Last night he recommended a new item on the starter menu, Pulled Pork pancakes. We shared these and the Crispy Pork Belly to start, and both were excellent. The Pork Belly is also available as a main dish. Friends ordered the Tom Kai Gai (chicken soup) which was delicate and delicious. <br/ <br/ Usually I don’t get further than the curries. The Red Thai is a particular favourite and if you like hot food, the Angry Curry is great, but be warned, it is seriously hot and if you’re not a chilli fan, don’t venture there. But last night we opted for the Crispy Chicken. Their non-curry dishes come with what might seem a bewildering choice of sauces, most of which sound appealing. I once asked them to bring me a tiny taste of 3 different sauces because I couldn’t make up my mind and they happily obliged. Last night we had the Chu Chee sauce which has a mild chilli and isn’t very sweet. <br/ <br/ My only criticism of Kung Thai is the dreaded TV. No matter how hard I try, if it’s in my eye-line, it’s not easy to ignore. But then again, if you choose your seat well, you can usually get around this.
I had the Kung Thai duck and it was perfection! Highly recommend the crispy fish with Lahu sauce, although it's very hot! Efficient and friendly service with a lovely atmosphere. Quite pricy but definitely worth the indulgence.
