Scheffel - Gößweinstein

Do not go out the way for Scheffel-Gasthof, but if you are in Gossweinstein and not in the mood for imagination, this is a great option. We had lunch before a walk through this fantastic city. Two adults/two children (hungry) and we are for...under 50 euros. The food was excellent, and the service was very attentive (despite a busy Sunday crowd). The waiting staff was definitely a cut above average and very willing to deepen our efforts to speak German. The children's menu was as expected and a good bargain. The adult menu had the traditional fare. We had a turkey carving in mushroom sauce and a sourd rate. Both were well prepared and delicious. The local beer, pilgrimage beer, is delicious. Very recommended if you are in town. There are fancier sites, but if you want great food, great beer, fair prices and excellent service, you can't do better than Scheffel.

After 15 km from Muggendorf we literally stumbled over Scheffel after visiting the local cathedral. The interior is a typical Franconian pub that still preserves the look and feel of the 1950s – but well maintained and in top condition. It is one of the places where...the locals are going for food and drink apparently, and for one reason: food is of very good quality at decent prices, the local beer (Wallfahrerbier) is worth a try and the staff are friendly. A real family restaurant.

Service: Fast and very attentive young waiters, e.g. we were immediately brought to color with pencils and something for our two young children. Drinks arrived one minute after order. Food: Impressively fat-free carvings, chips/fruits/pommes, roasted, etc. Potato salad made as good as home. Tasting... and portions not too big. No complaints. Surroundings: Sa inside for threatening rain showers. Very stale smell. Beer garden looked good if the weather was better. Main complaint: The table next to the entrance (from the beer garden was used as an office by (consumer owner and his wife). On the table there was a glass of something (water?, a newspaper and a phone. The man just sat at the table and cried to the customer. At least his wife moved, but her facial expressions were much the same. All in all: Good food, good service, so what do you want?

Very bad food. Sounds good in the menu, but taste, sausage castle and quality of ingredients below average. Muffins taste for edible oil on the scavenger. Salad boring sweet. Vegetable whirlpool tasteless with pan-coated vegetables. Local is actually quite cozy inside, except for smell after frying oil and bad ventilation, service is friendly and beautiful, but cooked touri mass production.
