Avial Indian Cuisine - Gold Coast

In addition to the typical Indian dishes, Avial serves fantastic South Indian cuisine. Be sure to try their dosas and apams as a delicious alternative to the usual naans and parathas. This is our favorite Indian restaurant on the Gold Coast.

We were one of two tables that night, so I should have known it wasn't a good choice. I expected it to be busier on a Saturday night. The hoppers were light and tasty, but the curries were disappointing and overpriced for the quality. The waiter was friendly but didn't seem to know much about the food. The restaurant lacked ambiance and unfortunately, there were no redeeming qualities. It's a shame because there aren't many South Indian restaurants in Southeast Queensland compared to North Indian ones.

My husband and I visited this restaurant in September to fulfill my craving for dosa. The food was delicious and I even got some takeout. The staff were accommodating of my dietary restrictions and were very friendly. The dishes were packed with flavor but didn't feel greasy or heavy. We returned for a second visit and brought a friend who also enjoyed the food. This is a relatively new restaurant, so help spread the word and bring a large group of friends! They offer a wide selection of tasty Indian dishes on their extensive menu.

This was my second visit in about as many months. Came for dinner with a friend. With the exterior open to the outside, even the seating inside was quite cold. You get the impression that this is a place on its way out. The menus had over half the alcohol selections and ALL deserts struck off. We ordered a parrotta dish, saffron rice, one lamb and one paneer. The paneer was bland, tasteless...........and it was halfway through that I realised that it probably lacked salt. The lamb and parotta were ok, but not to die for. Overall, for the pricing, the food was not value for money by any stretch of imagination. With the cold wind creeping indoors, we couldn't wait to leave.On the positive side, the young waiter who also manned the reception, was pleasant and efficient.
