I was fortunate to visit The Old Mulberry or Stari Dud at the end of September to celebrate two milestone birthdays with my four oldest ‘horsey’ friends. The ranch offers escapism in Its purest form; it is so quiet on the ranch out in the countryside that we became celebrities or rather novelties for the odd soul that we came across who took the opportunity to photograph us from the roadside or from their cars. As remnants the Croatian War of Independence, many buildings are dilapidated empty leading to an almost erie silence wherever you ride. However the locals you do come across are lovely welcoming. The rides were fast furious took us outside our comfort zone on several occasions (not a bad thing) with our guide Sefi entertaining us with his acrobatics, jokes boundless energy. He’s a fantastic horseman who cares deeply about the horses which was lovely to see. Micha his son Bojan were our charming hosts for the week, with Micha even cooking two meals out in the woods for us alfresco dining to the extreme. Great, wholesome, tasty food all week comfortable bedrooms to collapse into bed at the end of a long day’s riding. Oh but after we’d first soaked our aching muscles in the gorgeous hot tub. Thanks to all of you; two four legged for a week to remember to Natalie Sue at Far Ride for all the organisation.

What a holiday, what a beautiful ranch and the horses are outstanding trail partners. My friends and I went just a few weeks ago and my memories are still very fresh. The staff was wonderful, the food was yummy and all were so friendly, customer service was attentive to our needs. I caught a cold the last few days of our time at Stari Dud and the owners went above and beyond to make me as comfy as possible. Taking me to the pharmacy for much needed supplies. We traveled through rolling hills, country roads and pastures, the views at the tops of hills was gorgeous. Safety being top of mind for everyone we adapted the rides to suit the inclement weather we encountered. It was a trip to remember for me, fast paced, gorgeous countryside, lovely lunches in the forests and loads of laughs. We stopped at fabulous Inns for dinner and a windy but fun adventure to Zagreb. The trail boss Stefi is an incredible horseman, knew the horses, and sussed out our riding capabilities perfectly. He told me when I get home to simply ride my 2 horses like I rode my trail horse in Croatia, be bold, be bright, be brief in my daily work on my horses , which is just the encouragement I needed and very sage advice which I take to my home arena every day. Highly recommend Start dud to anyone who delights in hacking, cross country riding, gallop through Croatia its the only way to see the country!
Fantastic holiday, beautiful well trained horses and friendly staff. Great food and beautiful countryside.
