Great Wall Chinese - Gosport

My partner and I had a wonderful meal tonight. The food was piping hot and tasty. Best Chinese meal in a long time. Their vegetarian options were superb and full of flavour. The staff were friendly, efficient and professional. Definitely going to be our local...restaurant now. Well recommended.

I returned to this restaurant, a favourite haunt several years ago, and while the decor is much the same and I even recognised a Chinese lady from back then, it appears to be run now by a brusque young Chinese man who who tosses the...dishes in front of customers as if resenting their very presence. The barbecued spare ribs on the appetiser menu were grey, flaccid and tough. The sea food Chow Mein with crispy noodles was a soggy mess with not a lot of seafood, so bad I left much of it. The bill seemed on the high side compared with prices on the menu, but you’re presented with a hand written summary rather than an itemised account. Check the price of each dish as you order or go somewhere else.

We visited the restaurant today, what can I say it was a terrible experience, we ordered are food the starter came, plonked in front of us no cutlery no napkins nothing, we asked for cutlery everything is too much trouble for them, are main course...was ok, we ordered chips which was supermarket crinkle cut ones, we spent good money on a meal, which was only as good as a takeaway, certainly not worth the money, dire they cant wait to get rid of you.

Really happy with our food from here. Really tasty, had a dish I hadn't tried before and great service too. We used a few times while holidaying in the area!

We kicked off our summer of 2020 mid pandemic sailing holiday with dinner at the Great Wall. They had a buffet service, where the concept is: order as much as you want on the entrée menu, and only once that is finished, can you start ordering...from the main course menu, and no backtracking to the entrée menu. In hindsight, we would have just stayed on the entree menu (duck pancakes for days) and maybe just a fried rice at the very end. The hostess does a great job at guiding you through the orders don 't worry about overdoing it, as the portions are small so you can try many dishes. You must have the fortune cookies though. The fortunes on those were super accurate for all four of us and saw us through the many challenges on the subsequent sail.
