City Barbeque - Grand Rapids

I took a friend to dine in at this restaurant after having ordered delivery a few times before. I deducted a point because the brisket can sometimes be quite dry, but I was pleased to receive a nice tender slice during this visit. The kielbasa, however, is fantastic! The seating and atmosphere are enjoyable, complete with real metal utensils. The Mac and Cheese was also deliciously creamy. Overall, a great experience!

I walked in to order two meat plates with Texas Toast as a side, but they were out of Texas Toast. When I asked for a substitute, I was informed that cornbread was available for a $3 extra charge. I believe that if an advertised item is unavailable, there shouldn't be an additional charge for a substitute. This frustrated me enough to leave, and six other customers followed suit.

The food was quite good, but not exceptional. We ordered the judge plate, and the ribs were definitely the standout meat. I really enjoyed the bread and green beans as well. The sides were fantastic! They also have their own sauces, which are very tasty.

Let me start by saying I love good barbecue. I love brisket, it is one of my absolute favorites. The girl who took my order seemed pleasant enough but, she didn 't ask if I 'd been there before, she didn 't ask me anything or try to engage at all. What can i get you? and done.She wasn 't rude, but nothing to give great service. There were nearly no people in the restaurant. One other guy. I ordered a brisket sandwich, Mac and cheese, and banana pudding. The brisket was so tough, it had no smoke line, it was a huge letdown. The pitmaster should be ashamed. The Mac and cheese was like noodles and cheese-whiz. The best thing I ate was the banana pudding, and the whipped topping on that, made it feel like my teeth put on a sweater. The smoke smell lured me in, and the food let me down. I had no plans on reviewing when I walked in, I hadn 't eaten all day, and don 't think that i didn 't scarf down the food. Honestly the review was because I left disappointed that I let the one meal of the day I had time to eat, be City Barbecue.

I love the food, I come in once or twice a week. I have watched a lot of employees come and go, which i don't like because I do come in a lot, but I understand that is business. When I came in today Nicole was working which is an employee that has been around for a while, I just love her she makes sure you leave with a smile on your face, she helps all her other coworkers with out attitude every time I see her. She is great at her job..
