Jaku Sushi North - Grand Rapids

I visited this restaurant for the first time and overall, it was a pleasant experience. The food was flavorful, although I had a couple of minor disappointments. For instance, the kosho (stuffed jalapeños) could have used a bit more spice, and the portion of unagi was smaller compared to other places I've tried in town. I felt there was also an excessive amount of rice in the edamame dish. On the plus side, the tempura was excellent, and the nigiri was fresh without being dried out around the edges. I even enjoyed the salad. Despite those few shortcomings, I would definitely return to this restaurant.

Jaku is the best sushi in Grand Rapids. The sashimi is the best you will find this side of the state. The Japanese/Korean menu has something for everyone and for every craving. Just stop reading this review and go now. You have definitely found your newfavorite sushi spot!!

I was really disappointed with my experience. The Iceland Volcano roll tasted terrible because of the torched salmon. The Special California roll was just like steamed vegetables wrapped in rice. The veggie roll was quite ordinary, and the spicy salmon roll had hardly any salmon in it and wasn’t spicy at all. Overall, it was a letdown, and given the prices, I expected much more.

The food is consistently excellent. It's priced similarly to Olive Garden, but the quality is far superior, and everything is actually prepared fresh rather than microwaved. While the beer selection could be improved, there's a good variety of sake and wine available. The service is professional and efficient, and the atmosphere is warm and themed. I've enjoyed everything I've tried on the menu, with the exception of the miso soup, which was a bit too watery—this is my only complaint regarding the food.
