Sushi Yama - Grand Rapids

What is Sushi? Yama lack of decor makes it in the highest quality sushi. The boss is a master in his art. In the basement of the McKay Tower you will find the best sushi in Grand Rapids. I've come to Sushi Yama for about 6 years, I've tried most of the menus, and I've never been disappointed.

Pretty good sushi compound. It has a somewhat strange layout with refrigerators in the dining room/order area, but no biggie. Service was good and fast with an older Japanese guy who ran orders and another guy who ran orders. The baby Octopus Salad was pretty good when a little boring with just octopus, salad and a sesame ginger dressing. It was nice that the octopus was cooked properly. The Las Vegas Roll was enjoyable, but maybe a bit small for the price, but not strange.

GREAT Sushi, I was initially skeptical!. So we usually go to another sushi place in downtown, that's really nice! Sit down, candle on the table, well maintained. We were realized there for a date night, but on a tight schedule, we would not be able to wait for a table there, so decide to give this place an attempt. All we saw was the shield outside in the center of Monroe, I had no idea that you went into a staircase, down stairs, into this unexpected lobby/cave area. I was skeptical to say the least.... I even remember telling my husband... maybe we were stupid to eat here. I was so sharp! Your sushi is so good, we LOVE the shrimp empura roll, soooo good! Aso the mango roll! You are the only place to do a mango roll right, yum yum yum!! Although the spicy tuna is not my favorite, the price is wonderful!! Since the night, my husband and I have ordered from there basically once a week for a month. Very recommended to bring home especially for departure. Our favorite!

I'm glad I found this place! Some kind of hidden spot... cellar. Rolls were great. My new lunch in downtown.

Absolutely the best sushi place in town. It's like a secret little getaway you won't regret taking. Fantastic fresh sushi, and great service for a price you can't beat. I would highly recommend sushi Yama over any of the other sushi places in the area. Best quality. Best price.
