This is the best Chinese restaurant around! My family and I have been coming here for nearly a decade, and the owners are absolutely delightful. Their lemon chicken is incredible!
Great Food, Lovely People, what more could you want?. The Golden Swan is one of those outer suburban Chinese Restaurants that a lot of people would drive past a hundred times.A real throwback to the 70's, there's nothing fancy about the decor, the exterior doesn't hold out a lot of promise and the location is, well let's be honest, far from glamorous. But inside is some of the best old fashioned Chinese food around. The servings are huge and the breath of the wok is in every mouthful. The family who run the place are very friendly and after only a few visits welcome you like a long lost friend when you return. The menu has all the old classics, the lemon chicken, the sweet and sour pork, satay beef etc. Plus, and it's a BIG plus, FRIED ICE CREAM!The Vegetable Fried Rice is wonderful and their Prawn Crackers are another huge serve that could fill you up before you even start eating the mains. It's pretty small and on some Saturday nights it can get very crowded but midweeks are VERY quiet and it's not that far out of town via the freeway. It's places like this that remind you why you came to like Chinese food so much in the first place. It ain't fancy, but it's **** good.
This Chinese restaurant is a fantastic local spot. The prices are affordable, the portions are generous, and the service is fast and convenient. Supporting small local businesses like this ensures that you always have access to great takeout options. I will definitely be returning for more.
Old Fashioned, Nothing Fancy, But great food. Doveton doesn't usually come to mind when you're thinking good food but this tiny Mom and Pop outer suburban Chinese Restaurant is a real unlikely gem. There's no fine dining here, the decor is sparse, and the place seems trapped in a 1960's timewarp. All the old favourites are there, the lemon chicken, sweet and sour pork, beef in black bean and even Banana Fritters and Fried Ice Cream.Service is friendly but far from professional although it's clear this is very much a family affair. My Combination Omelette was enormous full of prawns, pork and vegetables. It was way too much to eat in one sitting but I did it anyway. My wife went for the Combination Satay. It's not exactly Chinese, but it was one of the best I've had anywhere in Melbourne, not as spicy as I would like it but I suppose they need to cater for the more pedestrian tastes of this sort of working class area.My friends out here put me on to this place and while I was VERY sceptical and resisted their invitations for two years or more, I'm now a believer, the food here is every bit as good as Rose Garden in the City, in fact better and that's saying a lot, it's a little more pricey but everything is under $20 with most meals around $14 15.It's unfashionable food in an unfashionable suburb but we had a great feed and we'll be going back again next time we're anywhere near the area. With a few good friends and some BYO it could be a lot of fun.
