I think, as deborah c said, the reward was greater than we expected. during the place definitiw past it's best. it's history is one of the rich history. in restaurant milchbach you will find the grandson of the original owner who still operates. Although many may not know in him 's present day it was one of the places to be, as the end of the first cable car in the world that worked until the first world war. while some say it is not up to standard, or perfect Swiss decor may slow down, stop and check where and what they see, notices that chanel, sunshades on sunny days, personal assistants, bally etc. all have their place and with those to get to miclhbach will not be very helpful for them; . once they see an abandoned restaurant you can no longer reach through the glacier melt, sitting alone on a huge rock formation, now where once a busy business was standing. these and many other things you can learn from the owner of the restaurant milchbach if you only need the time to breathe, listen, learn and enjoy the landscape and hospitality that is the Swiss. Stop and take a beer.
From the cable car in pfingstegg we hiked to the milchbach restaurant, but they can go to the Wetterhorn restaurant where they go back to a **** where they see smooth rock walls where the glacier came down earlier. the milk stream...restaurant is old and simple, but friendly and gives them the opportunity to eat for a bite and a drink before they wander. we migrated to the higher gletscher where you had to be very well for this breath. this is nothing for children or people who do not afford to climb vertical ladders or to foot on narrow and over smooth rocks here they must be attached. Unfortunately, this ascent is no longer accessible due to a landslide a few years back.
Self-service style snacks and drinks....basic but very clean and was a gott that for the smaller ones who need the loo! good for a snack and a drink. friendly owner who took time to make travel with us. pity that it is no longer used...a hike from hotel Wetterhorn to pfinstegg via milchbach saves a cable car fair.
We went from grindelwald to milchbach and were very grateful that this place was there. we were able to use the washroom (free) and also the dame there worked gave us a short story teaching on the opposite, the cable car and what next track. again, super grateful that this place existed and was open as we needed 2.5 hours to foot and soon needed a break.
We walked past Chalet Milchbach on 30 July and it was shut. And it didn 't look like it was closed because of their rest day. It looks shut long term so don 't rely on it for a stop while walking from the Hotel Wetterhorn to or...from Pfiingstegg. And I have to say it looked run down like something from the 'Hansel Gretel ' story! Based on the other review and what I saw it is best avoided even if it does reopen at some point unless it gets new owners and a seriously expensive refit. Spooky.
