Years later, coworkers wanted to go there and told me it was a fluke and I must’ve been sick otherwise. I ate there a second time and EVERYONE I went with got sick. Years later friend of mine worked in the restaurant cleaning supplies industry and he was in this kitchen speaking with their staff. He later told me the conditions of the kitchen are so incredibly unsanitary and I should never eat there. I told him, I already know. No one should eat here.
Service was poor, had to ask for everything menus silverware, drink refills, my à la carte taco that was never brought to the table. My waitress and the manager sat at the office table, set up in the middle of the restaurant and talked while we waited for service. Very unprofessional. Food was mediocre at best. Salsa was killer as usual star of the show. I’ve come here many times before but I will not return over priced very unhappy. I would suggest to try somewhere else.
Such a great place to eat!!! Love Alvia's Mama Chicken Totilla Soup. It is so tastie. Loaded with Chicken, Avocado ? rice, onions served with home made tortilla chips fresh salsa and Homemade tortillas!!! We had the Mama's soup and one fried carnitas ? Taco special!!! Was amazing. The location in HB is right on Main Street. Open to the street! Full Bar!! Great service!! Tuesday Night is the Street fair in HB!!! Lots to do after you eat!!! Enjoy!! Parking: Free parking behind the resturant. Front parking has meters. If you have a handicap the parking is free. After 6PM you don't have to feed the meters!
I live down the street from Avila’s and have been coming here for years. Unfortunately it has been going downhill for some time. The menu has been shortened quite a bit, prices are a lot higher, and the food preparation and presentation has suffered as well making it not worth the cost. When we first started eating here the delicious Mama Avila’s soup was $8.95 a bowl: now it is $15.95 and not as flavorful, other than the loads of salt in it. After my most recent visit with family we decided to no longer eat here. Everyone in our party was disappointed in the food, which was greasy, overcooked, and lacking a lot of flavor. I feel like tourists visiting HB won’t know better Mexican food when eating here, but there’s better options for locals.
Had dinner there. The Carnitas platter was beyond delicious! Great service. Good prices. Great atmosphere. Thumbs up definitely!
