Had the pleasure of attending a Black Excellence function in San Luis Obispo at which Papa Jay's catered. I am not a huge fan of smoked bbq( which is everywhere now). Papa Jays is not that. Every item they made was beyond delicious: ribs, chicken, hot links, creole rice, Mac n cheese, beans. The owners were friendly, accommodating and treated us like family. Wish I lived closer to frequent their place. Locals please support!
It used to be a decent place to go for something different. In November they said they would remodel and be open in a month. Now its almost March and not open and certainly don't see any remodeling being done. Semms like they are flakekier then the biscuits.
I Love the food from there very reasonable for the pricing and serving size. My favorite are the sides and the sweet potato pie. You should definitely stop by and grab some to go. There is not much of a dining inside.
Great southern food. Love the mac and the red beans and rice. Poor boys, fried chicken, gumbo, ettufe, meatloaf, all of its good! Nicests ppl who own it too.
