You eat what he is cooking that day which is what he has bought locally or grown himself. Read Graham S's review for the detail. We had been in November on recommendation and popped in for coffee-well, JP served us home brewed coffee, bananas and then proceeded to cook us a small tortilla. I think we paid 8 euro for the lot and enjoyed the menagerie as Graham's review. We took our friends there and had a lovely rustic meal of bread with JP's homemade garlic sauces, goats cheese pate, bean soup to die for and the most tender melt in the mouth pork with homemade chips. Juan Peter served local wines and we had free toffee vodka at the end. JP speaks good English and I recommend you call him to see what he might be cooking in case it is not to your taste. You must love garlic, animals, rustic settings and a super, extrovert host who only wants you to have fun and enjoy his cooking! The four of us had an unforgettable night all for 55 euros. JP was on his own this night so the service which he kept apologising for was a little slow hence the lower mark (he is normally helped by his brother) but, hey, the restaurant only caters for 8-10 people max!
First visit: Found it by accident. Looking for a tapas bar off the beaten track. Drove for miles up a tiny winding mountain road and spotted a little house with a couple of signs outside. One sign said Chiringuito . That means Beach-bar and we 're a mile up a mountainside ……. I was already hooked! Car park big enough for 3 small) cars but it was mid week and we were the only visitors. A Canarian lady was brushing the patio. “Are you open?” “Si, senor”. We were invited into their house, through their kitchen, past the lounge and bedrooms and into a real cave at the back which is kitted out as a bar and restaurant with draft beer, fridges, chillers, etc. Wow! Note: the loo is their own private bathroom). Ordered wine and the owner lovely guy who speaks perfect English) offered us tapas. We just wanted a couple and they were brilliant. Then he brought out more and more as ‘samples’ but as we insisted we didn’t really want more so they were not on the bill. After we were full I asked for the bill. It was presented with a couple of bottles Ron Miel and Schnapps) for us to help ourselves. After making the most of it I went to pay the bill. Walked around their home, shouted……….nobody home. They had gone out somewhere – and left two strange men in their home! Needless to say I have been back many times and taken numerous friends and acquaintances. More info: They have a very large outside garden and patio where you can also dine if the prefer. They grow their own fruit and vegetables. It is also like a private zoo with many exotic species of fish, rabbits, ducks, hens, sheep, goats one little chap follows the owner round just like a pet dog). In short this is a must see in the south of Tenerife. Only one word of caution: Prices are not unreasonable €15 pp) but the owner is a master of PR and will try to push unwanted tapas at you and inflate the bill – but you can’t blame him for that? All things considered it’s the best tapas bar in Tenerife South!
