The fresh bread rolls are a highlight, particularly when filled with thick ham, salad, and coleslaw. It appears to be a popular spot among the Welsh locals for lunch. The prices are very reasonable, as we only paid £12 for three baps and a sausage roll. You can't beat that! It's definitely worth a visit for a quick and affordable meal.
The restaurant is a bit outdated and could use some refurbishment. However, the full breakfast is a great deal at £7, including thick toast with jam, juice, and a hot drink. The ingredients may not be top-notch, but they are decent for the price and the portions are generous.
We were initially drawn to this restaurant by the enticing cakes displayed in the window. Our plan was to simply enjoy a coffee and take a few cakes home, but we ended up deciding to dine in. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and efficient. The food was of impeccable quality and the coffee was excellent. The restaurant was clean and tastefully decorated, including the restrooms. The pizza was the best I've had in a long time, with a truly homemade taste that surpassed any frozen option. The chicken mushroom pie was also a standout dish. Our latte stayed hot throughout our meal, just as it should. We also couldn't resist taking home some cakes for later, including an almond tart and eccles cake that we enjoyed the following day. Thank you to the entire team for a wonderful experience.
I first came to the Gwalia in the early/mid 1970 's and very little seemed to have changed. We had a nice cup of tea and coffee to wash down some Bara Brith and Welsh Cakes which were good. The prices were cheap. If you want to try somewhere very traditional and old school try here but if you are a 'Costa ' person you may wish to try somewhere else. I enjoyed my return visit.
Obviously a little local gem. It reminded us of a similar place back home in Oxon... bakery with cafe at the back. We ordered a bacon roll and toasted cheese sandwich. I had the latter and it was delicious. Full of cheese and dripping with butter. Good honest food, and friendly staff and customers... I will go back!
