After the leader of our walking group, thought it would be hilarious to take the longest path up to the summit and then tell us that he had forgotten to bring more than 1 litre of water for us to drink. I almost resorted to drinking from a small stream on the path downwards. Almost passing out from thirst, I reached the cafe and bought a huge bottle of water, which was swiftly drank. Thank God for the half way cafe!
A welcome sight half way up Snowdon. A really good cup of coffee. Friendly service. Probably one of the best places to sit and have a well deserved drink. Stunning views and a tasty coffee.
We saw the lady who runs the Halfway Cafe on her way to work on a quad bike going up the llanberis trail. Not a bad commute (well on a sunny day). We stopped here on our way back down Snowdon after a successful climb and enjoyed a cup of tea and a snack and savoured the views of Snowdonia. The lady was very friendly and this is a lovely spot to rest, replenish and just enjoy Snowdonia.
So August 2020 we went up Snowden in the pouring wind and rain. Three quarters of the way we had to turn back because of high winds but half way up we enjoyed teas and hot chocolates. To be honest the lovely lady could have given me the drink and told me to jump off the next ledge and I'd still be happy because I'M HALFWAY UP A MOUNTAIN AND HAVE FOUND A RANDOM TEAM SHOP LIKE AN OASIS IN THE DESERT.
Having climbed Ben Nevis in August where there are NO facilities (in fact like the majority of ‘big hills’ I’ve ever climbed) I was astonished to see a cafe half way up Snowdon and simply took it for what it is... a bonus! I’m sorry but if you are planning to climb one of the highest peaks in the country, please just be prepared. Proper clothing and footwear, enough food and warms drinks should you need them. And if you need to use the bathroom... do what people would do anywhere else. You have no ‘right’ to be provided with toilet facilities! As it was this was a great pit stop for us half way up. We got a really tasty hot chocolate which set us up for the rest of the climb in the fog and the lady couldn’t have been nicer. She even took our ‘Scottish currency’ unlike so many other places we encountered that week. I for one and thankful and grateful for your presence!
